IKU-SPECTRA: Molecular Sciences & Spectroscopy Applied Research Center

IKU-SPECTRA: Molecular Sciences and Spectroscopy Applied Research Center is established within Istanbul Kültür University to conduct advanced research and promote scientific excellence in the fields of molecular sciences. Our center is shaped by the Spectroscopy@IKU ERA-Chair Project, the first project in Türkiye funded by the European Research Agency (ERA) under the Horizon Europe Framework - Widening Participation and Strengthening the European Research Area (WIDERA) ERA-CHAIRS Programme. With a budget of 2.5 million Euros, the project will be developed over the next 5 years at Istanbul Kültür University, laying the foundation for a Center of Excellence (IKU-SPECTRA) equipped with advanced instrumentation and specialized human resources to foster research and innovation in physics, chemistry and materials sciences with spectroscopy as the unifying vector.

İstanbul Kültür Üniversitesi IKU-SPECTRA Moleküler Bilimler ve Spektroskopi Uygulama ve Araştırma Merkezi olarak, akademik kadromuzla çalışmalarımıza devam ediyoruz. Merkezimizin Yönetim Kurulu Üyesi ve Kıdemli Araştırmacısı (Senior Researcher) olan Prof. Dr. Sevim Akyüz; moleküler spektroskopi, titreşimsel analiz ve hesaplamalı modelleme alanlarındaki akademik birikimiyle bilimsel çalışmalarımıza değerli katkılar sunmaktadır. State-of-the-art facilities for advanced molecular sciences research

Spectroscopy Laboratory

The Spectroscopy Laboratory is equipped with start-of-the-art equipment for infrared, ultraviolet/visible and Raman spectroscopies (including Raman imaging and mapping). The laboratory is also equipped with high-vacuum systems and standard temperature variable cells as well as a closed-cycle He-refrigerated cryostat for matrix-isolation spectroscopy.

X-Ray Diffraction and Spectroscopy Laboratory

The X-Ray Diffraction and Spectroscopy Facility is equipped with a state-of-the-art single crystal diffractometer and an X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy instrument. The diffractometer allows for low temperature measurements.

Computer Simulations Laboratory

Computer Simulations Laboratory is designed for conducting computational simulations in materials science and molecular-level research. Advanced software tools and connection to high-performance computing systems are available for theoretical modeling and data analysis.

Chemistry Laboratory

The Chemistry Laboratory will serve as a versatile space to samples preparation and support to the analytical labs of the infrastructure.

Materials Laboratory

The Materials Laboratory will serve as a versatile space for materials preparation and characterization by different techniques (e.g., DSC, IR, zeta-potential, particles sizer).

High Performance Computing Laboratory

The High-Performance Computing Laboratory (HPC) is an associated laboratory to the project, which is dedicated to advanced intensive computational work. It includes equipment with 2 TB RAM, NVIDIA A100 INSPUR GPU-based systems, working under LINUX OS.
